Here is the single most useful fact about Gymshark markdowns, measured across 4,528 sale SKUs: the store's median claimed discount is 70% — and so is its 90th percentile. At most stores, “70% OFF” is the once-a-year rack at the back. At Gymshark, on the day of our snapshot, it was the median condition of the sale section. A shopper who treats that number the way they'd treat it at J.Crew is being played by a percentage.
One store, two waves
Our snapshot caught 833 live Gymshark markdowns, and their claimed depths don't spread out — they pile up in two places. The big wall: 497 offers (60% of the sale section) claiming 70–80% off. The second wave: 210 offers (25%) claiming 30–40%. Almost nothing lives between — the 40–70% middle holds fewer than 70 items. Gymshark prices its sale like a two-speed machine: items are either in the moderate-cut lane or the deep-clearance lane, with no gradual slide.
The arithmetic is collection-wide percent rules on round stickers: a $46 tee at exactly 70% becomes $13.80, $80 joggers become $24.00, a $20 tank becomes $6.00. The 40% lane produces prices like $31.20 against a $52 sticker.
So is the 70% “real”?
In the narrow sense our labels measure — yes, oddly enough. All 833 live Gymshark markdowns currently carry our CORROBORATED label, because a 70% claim at a store whose measured routine is 70% fits the pattern exactly (the claims are consistent with how this store demonstrably prices at scale — that pattern check is the corroboration; details in our methodology).
But corroborated is not the same as meaningful. When the whole rack is 70% off, the percentage stops carrying information — it can't tell you which of two tees is the better buy, and it can't tell you whether today is a good day to shop. This is exactly why our deal score weighs discount depth against each store's own culture instead of taking percentages at face value: a “70% off” that is deeper than 78% of a store's markdowns means something; a “70% off” that is the store's markdown means much less.
How to actually judge a Gymshark deal
- Shop the dollar price, not the percent. The median live sale item costs $16.80; the whole sale section runs $4.20 to $108. At those absolutes, “is $24 a fair price for joggers I'll train in?” is a better question than “is 70% off good?”
- Use the two lanes as a signal. An item sitting in the 30–40% lane hasn't hit the deep-clearance lane. If it's a staple colorway you don't need this week, the store's own pattern says deeper cuts are routine here.
